IMPORTATNT NEIGHBORHOOD UPDATES

THE FOLLOWING THREE NOTICES WERE RECIEVED FROM WARD 4 REPRESENTATIVES REGARDING ACTIVITIES IN THE RITA RANCH AREA. SONORAN DESERT WILLOW ESTATES HOA IS CONSIDERED AS PART OF THE RITA RANCH AREA.

EARLY TRASH COLLECTION FOR MAY

The City's Environmental Department has been asked by Ward 4 to pickup trash on Tuesdays in the Rita Ranch area FIRST for the month of May. This request was submitted so trash pickup does not interfere with contractors who will be working to repair subpar road work on already resurfaced in our community.  Also road contractors will be resurfacing other streets that need to be completed.  Early trash pickup may negate trash trucks from running over newly laid road resurfacing material.

Trash bins MUST be out before 6am on Tuesday.  Otherwise, residents run the chance of having to keep the old trash for an extra week.

PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT REPLACEMENT

PURPLE HEART PARK

After a safety inspection, the current playground near the Rita Road parking lot that serves younger children ages 2-5, has recently been determined to require replacement. The older kid zone for ages 6-12 meets playground safety standards and will receive a new shade sail.  The existing swings, including the ADA swing, will remain in place ensuring this playground will be available for children with all abilities.

We are asking the community to vote for the playground they like most. The voting is open until Sunday, May 26, and the playground with the majority of the votes will be installed in the area where the younger children’s equipment is currently located. We anticipate installing the new playground in late summer/early fall of 2024.

Funds from the Ward 4 Council Office of Nikki Lee will purchase this new playground replacement. We heard the community loud and clear, expressing their desire to have a more traditional playground back in Purple Heart Park, so we hope the community enjoys the options presented.

FLASHING LEFT TURN YELLOW LIGHTS

For those of you who don’t get the Arizona Daily Star paper and are wondering what has happened to the yellow flashing arrow turn lights at several major intersections in the Rita Ranch area here is the answer.  According to an article in the Star by Charles Borla it seems that the City’s Transportation Department has decided in order to improve traffic safety that the yellow flashing turn arrows will not function during 7am-7pm daily at designated intersections with “…dual-left turn lanes…”.   According to Mr. Borla’s article this info was listed on the City’s Department of Transportation Facebook site.

In the Rita Ranch area the Houghton intersections that will have the yellow flashing arrow turn light not functioning during the day are:  Houghton and Mary Ann Cleveland/Old Vail; Houghton and Rita Road and finally Houghton and Valencia.

There are four (4) other intersections in the City where the yellow flashing turn arrows are turned off from 7am to 7pm.  The City Transportation is looking at turning off the yellow flashing arrow lights during the day to another 4 intersections.  If you want a complete list of affected intersections look at front page of today’s (4-29-2024) Arizona Daily Star newspaper,

Please drive carefully especially when making left turns from dual left turn lanes in the City of Tucson.
